Introducing the New Ranger Single Cab special from CMH Ford
The Base series may be the entry-level offering in the Next-Gen Ranger line-up but it is packed with an impressive range of standard features. The two Double Cab models are both powered by the 125kW/405Nm 2.0L Single Turbo diesel engine mated to a newly developed six-speed manual gearbox, and are available in either 4x2 or 4x4 specification. In keeping with its workhorse application, the Base model features 16-inch steel wheels, a black front grille and bumper, and black mirror caps and door handles. The load box and tailgate are protected by a durable plastic capping to prevent damage, with integrated fixing points, an external tie-down rail and internal tie-down points to safely secure goods during transport. The tailgate is cleverly designed to be used as a flexible work surface, and includes two spring-loaded clamp pockets, an integrated ruler and cupholders – ideal for on-site contractors. There’s an impressive array of creature comforts when you head into the cabin, with ease of access provided by remote central locking that is linked to a perimeter alarm system and integrated immobiliser. The interior features four-way adjustable front seats, a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering column with power steering, air-conditioning and electric windows all round with one-touch operation for the driver and passenger windows. Vinyl seats and a vinyl floor covering ensure durability even in the toughest conditions. Next-Gen Ranger raises the bar for high-tech appointments – even in the Base series – as evidenced by the inclusion of an 8-inch colour digital instrument cluster complemented by a 10.1 LCD portrait touchscreen that operates the latest-generation SYNC® 4A infotainment system with four speakers. Both USB A and USB C ports are provided for connecting smartphones, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All Rangers are equipped with an embedded FordPass Connect modem, which gives the owner the ability to access vehicle information and control a number of practical features from the FordPass app. The XL range lifts the game with the inclusion of numerous additional features that enhance the all-round capability and convenience of the Ranger. It is available in both 4x2 or 4x4 specification, with a choice of either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. A locking rear differential provides enhanced traction in tricky off-road conditions, while the innovative lift assistance for the rear tailgate that debuted in the previous Ranger now extends to the XL grade, and greatly improves ease of use. Visually the XL is set apart from the Base model with the standard fitment of 16-inch alloy wheels in Sparkle Silver secured with locking wheel nuts, while the body-colour front bumper and black rear bumper give it a more upmarket edge. Power adjustable mirrors are fitted along with cloth seats, full carpets, all-weather rubber mats for the driver and passenger, and a 12-volt socket for rear passengers. The vehicle’s security is also upgraded to a full Thatcham-grade system with perimeter, motion and vehicle inclination sensors. Moving up to the XLT series adds a higher level of luxury, along with the choice of the 125kW 2.0L Single Turbo engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, or the powerful 154kW 2.0L Bi-Turbo engine matched to Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic. Externally the XLT is defined by the Next-Gen Ranger’s distinctive new C-clamp LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights (replacing the halogen DTRLs used on the Base and XL), front fog lamps and optional LED tail lights. It also boasts a prominent front grille with a chrome centre bar adding visual presence, along with body-colour mirrors, door handles and rear bumper. A spray-in bed liner with integrated 12V power socket adds further practicality to the load compartment, with ease of access provided by the innovative side steps that XLT customers can choose as an option. The XLT is also equipped with running boards, as well as a towbar to make the most of the Ranger’s impressive 3 500kg towing capacity.
